There are wonderful benefits to moving into your dream home down in Florida – warmer weather, close to the beach, you might even have a pool – but that also means you could now be up against Hurricane Season. On the Floridian east coast, hurricane season is June 1 – November 30th – is your house protected?

It’s important to put a plan in place on how to safeguard your home and belongings. All Florida Alarms is here to let you know how to protect your home and make sure your alarms can stand against any enemy, even a potential hurricane.

In the event of a storm or a hurricane passing through, you can be confident that each of our alarms comes with a backup battery that is there to keep the system running if your home or business loses power. In order to make sure the backup battery will take over, we suggest you replace the battery every few years (3-5 years). Without this backup battery, the loss of power may onset the alarm, causing added stress you just don’t need to be dealing with in the event of a hurricane.

You can also test the quality of your alarm’s battery ahead of time. Try unplugging the transformer and see if the alarm remains active when you trip it, and your central station calls you. You can also have your alarm company come out to test it. If you have an older alarm system installed, the system may not check the battery periodically like most new alarms do.

If you are having new hurricane windows installed in your home and already have an existing alarm system, you can protect the existing wiring by having the alarm company come out before the work is done. If those wires are cut, your cost of going wireless can be more expensive than just using the pre-existing wiring. Wireless systems can be installed and work well, but we suggest utilizing your existing wiring to save money.

Give yourself and your loved ones peace of mind that your alarm will stay safe, even if the weather outside is not.
